you can see when the root note is on the E string you have a G shape to the left and an E shape to the right (in the image below on fret 8)
When the root note is on the A string you have a C shape to the left and A shape to the right (in the image below on fret 3)
When the root note is on the D string you have the E shape on the left and the D shape on the right. (in the image below on fret 10)
